The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has completed its preparations to host the UAE 5G Conference in Dubai, on December 8 and 9, with the participation of leading officials and experts in this field to discuss the facts, prospects, challenges and opportunities of 5G.
The UAE 5G Conference provides a platform to share knowledge and expertise, and address opportunities and challenges related to 5G by gathering top experts, regulators, consulting firms, technology leaders and key global ICT players under one roof, to discuss and share opinions on the future development of ICTs and their applications. More than 500 participants from more than 50 countries with different interests in 5G networks and technologies are expected to attend the conference.
The conference aims, among others, to clarify many facts about 5G, as well as its prospects, uses and the impact on human life, economically, socially, or other. The importance of this event stems from the fact that 5G is considered the most prominent development in the field of communications nowadays, as it brings enormous potential to facilitate the applications of the smart city, including Internet of Things, big data, the superior time management of autonomous mobility, etc.
Commenting on this conference, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, said: “The world today is witnessing a rapid transformation towards the 5G, bringing an upgrade that is not just about faster smartphones, but also about other areas such as robots, security cameras, drones, downloading media, 3D printing, autonomous vehicles, Virtual Reality, health care, Internet of Things and many others. The 5G impact will be significant on various aspects of life. Moreover, in line with the leadership directives aimed at enhancing the UAE position as the first open global laboratory for the implementation of projects associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we have been keen to be one of the first countries to use 5G, and harness these new technologies in achieving the national goals, and provide the best, fastest and most developed services."
H.E. Al Mansoori stressed that this conference will highlight the 5G great potentials. He said: “Many doubts have been raised about 5G technologies, their feasibility, potentials and the impact they will have now, and in the next few years. The UAE 5G Conference is part of TRA efforts to answer these questions, and to develop a roadmap that contributes to accelerating 5G in the region. The UAE 5G Conference will be a platform for leading experts, officials and stakeholders in this field to discuss the reality, prospects, challenges and opportunities of the 5G.”
The two-day conference will discuss, in a number of workshops and sessions, the most important issues related to 5G. It will review the latest experiences, developments, opportunities and the market immediate needs in relation to the application of 5G. It will also discuss emerging technologies in 5G networks for each sector, and its impact on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Cybersecurity in the 5G will be one of the most important topics to be discussed at the conference. The conference will discuss the standards that will make the 5G technology safer, as well as its regulatory environment, the spectrum needs for the deployment of this technology, and the future of the Arab region in this regards.
It is worth to mention that the UAE has ranked first in the Arab Region and fourth globally in the launch and use of 5G networks, according to the Global Connectivity Index, issued by Carphone Warehouse, specialized in technology benchmarking. This achievement is the result of the efforts of the telecommunications sector in general, and TRA in particular, as the main driver of the 5G launch in the UAE. In recent years, TRA has collaborated with the operators to raise the telecom sector readiness to enter this state-of-the-art technology, which contributes to the UAE’s global leadership and makes it first to deploy and operate 5G networks.
