Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in GITEX Technology Week 2019, at Dubai World Trade Centre from 6-10 October 2019. DEWA is highlighting its latest smart services, customer services and innovative digital technologies in electricity and water. It will demonstrate its key initiatives that use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and disruptive technologies to enhance the experience of its customers, partners, employees, and other stakeholders. DEWA has its own stand (S2-D1) and is also part of the pavilion of Smart Dubai Government Establishment, the technology arm of Smart Dubai Office.
“GITEX Technology Week is an important opportunity to highlight DEWA’s AI applications and its smart and innovative solutions. These are part of our strategy to support the Smart Dubai initiative, which aims to make Dubai into the world’s smartest and happiest city. This is also part of our efforts to contribute to transforming Dubai into a global centre for disruptive technologies and to keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. These also contribute to achieving national strategies, including the UAE Centennial 2071, the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, the UAE Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to make Dubai proactive and creative in meeting the needs of individuals and society as a whole, and the Dubai Paperless Strategy, which aims to build an integrated paperless government framework by 2021,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“Through Digital DEWA, our digital arm, we are redefining the concept of a utility to create a new digital future for Dubai to support the Dubai 10X initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to propel Dubai into the future, putting it 10 years ahead of other global cities through government innovation and disruptive technologies. DEWA will disrupt the entire business of public utilities by becoming the world’s first digital utility to use autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage. At the same time, we are expanding our use of AI and digital services,” added Al Tayer.

Bin Haidar noted that DEWA, through its participation in GITEX aims to highlight its smart programmes and initiatives to make customers happier. These include the Manarati Smart Pole Initiative, which features innovative applications including charging electric vehicles, interactive screens, smart environmental sensors, and Internet access; Smart Response service, which includes several features such as early self-diagnosis of electricity and water interruptions to reduce the necessary steps to deal with complaints by following up and solving them through DEWA’s smart app and website; DEWA Store on its smart app, which provides exclusive offers and discounts in cooperation with a number of public and private sector companies; Rammas, DEWA’s virtual employee that answers customer queries, both in Arabic and English on Facebook, Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, robots, and DEWA’s WhatsApp. DEWA is the first government organisation in the UAE to obtain a verified WhatsApp business account. Rammas can continuously learn and understand customers’ needs based on their enquiries, and analyse them based on available data and information to best respond to and streamline transactions.
DEWA will also display its revamped website, which was designed based on customer feedback, research, and benchmarking with leading global websites. The revamped website utilises an innovative and seamless design and navigation, which was tested with different user groups.
Visitors to DEWA’s stand at GITEX as well as users of its website (www.dewa.gov.ae) qualify to enter the twice-daily raffle draws to win valuable prizes throughout the event. Daily prizes include gift vouchers of AED500 for 200 winners. Customers can enter the grand prize raffle draw by using DEWA’s smart app or website, ATMs, Check Deposit Machines, online banking, smart banking apps or Etisalat payment kiosks from 1 January 2019 to 7 October 2019. These include gift vouchers of AED 5,000 for 40 winners. Customers have a chance to win valuable prizes offered by DEWA Store partners. Services that qualify customers to enter the draw are Bill payment, Smart Response, auto-pay activation, and usage of DEWA Store.
