At a seminar for young Emirati business leaders organised in association with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Investcorp’s Co-CEO Mohammed Al-Shroogi discussed the role of alternative finance in supporting economic growth and trends in the GCC investment landscape.
This is the second seminar Investcorp, a leading provider and manager of alternative investment products, has hosted with Dubai Chamber. It follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed between the two institutions in 2016.
During the seminar, which was held at Dubai Chamber’s head office, Mohammed Al-Shroogi gave an overview of the current economic environment, with a particular focus on the effects of the drop in oil price and the national transformation plans taking place in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait.
In his remarks, Mr. Al-Shroogi said, “At Investcorp, we have a positive outlook on the GCC, and we believe that its market dynamics and fundamentals will attract greater volumes of private capital, supporting the long-term sustainable growth of the region.”
He added, “The ongoing diversification and privatisation efforts by GCC governments have been key drivers of the positive investment sentiment in the region. The UAE, specifically, has led the way in developing a more diversified, knowledge-based economy. Investcorp is pleased to play its part – beyond its traditional role as an investor – by hosting these knowledge-sharing seminars alongside Dubai Chamber.”
Commenting on the event, Mr. Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, and General Coordinator of Tejar Dubai, said: “These seminars complement Dubai Chamber’s efforts to support entrepreneurs in the emirate, and provide an important platform to share knowledge and expertise that can greatly benefit young business leaders. Nurturing Dubai’s entrepreneurial eco-system is a key focus of the Chamber’s 2017-2021 strategy, as this sector remains one of the main drivers of competitiveness within the local business community.”
Mr. Al Zaabi added that the Chamber looks forward to collaborating with Investcorp in the future to further develop the skills sets of talented entrepreneurs in the emirate.
